Docklands Cotton Mills is the remnants of the industrial complex with a range of creative hubs, each of them is divided by existing heritage buildings in the site. In my design, I try to physically reconnct the separated tenants in one through redesigning the architectural structure, and empathically bring the community together to enhance the neighbourhood relationship.

First of all, introducing the new people to the site with multiple playful and attractive services, brining in the existing program RRR [Repairing, reusing and recycling] to the site, and reproduce to denim workshop and retail store. The design affects a sense of community by encouraging people to engage with the program of donation, through “Brining Your Own jeans”; repairing at workshop; reselling back to community, to achieve the social and economic sustainability.

Bringing out with the idea of “keep old, add new” to maintain heritage value as the base of my design, and produce the visual and experimental contrast with the new industrial scaffolding structure.  On the top of that, I apply the flexible structure to create visible boundaries to increase visual connection and human interaction, also allowing stakeholders and tenants to adapt the space in multiple uses in different situations, durations, and their own preferences.
